THOMAS R. R. COBB: The Making of a Southern Nationalist William B. McCash HC DJ
This listing is for the hardcover book Thomas R. R. Cobb: The Making of a Southern Nationalist by William B. McCash. From the dust jacket:
Thomas R. R. Cobb (1823-1862), a Georgia jurist who, perhaps more than any other one person, influenced the form that the “second revolution” took in Georgia (1860-1861), has been described as a prototype of a Southern intellectual. A product of the “Old South,” Cobb’s influence upon national events (up to and during the Civil War, especially in Georgia) was considerable. Cobb was a “representative Southerner” whose ideas “expressed the trends then current in Southern thought.” This investigation of the life and influence of Thomas R. R. Cobb provides significant insight into the attitudes of his time. Cobb’s multifaceted involvements--in legal, educational, and moral reform; revivalism; the “positive good defense” of slavery; secession; and the Civil War--make him a doubly interesting important figure worthy of serious investigation. The present study is just such a serious, well-researched, and well-written investigation of Cobb, and amply provides further insight into the life and times of that “Late Great Unpleasantness” (secession and Civil War) that is such an important part of the history of the United States.
This book is preowned but in really nice condition. There is a small notation in ink on the inside cover stating when and where the book was purchased. I have flipped through the book several times and that is the only mark or writing I have seen. There are two pages with dog-ears that have been straightened and a few pages towards the back of the book where it looks like something may have butted into the page edges. The dust jacket has two small holes/tears the look almost like claw marks on the front panel. The binding and pages are so tight I don't think this book has been read.
Shipping for this item will be boxed Media Rate Mail or Parcel Select Mail (your choice) within the USA. Please note that due to delays within the USPS I cannot be responsible for delivery delays once an item has been turned over to the Postal Service, especially if you select Media Rate.
TERMS
(PLEASE READ BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS):
Payment:
All you should have to do at the end of an auction is click "Pay Now". There is no need to ask for an invoice or wait for one. I will send an invoice if you request one but my first priority will be to mail the items I have been paid for.  I am no longer allowed to say
I accept forms of payment other than Paypal.
Due to Bidders contacting me and asking to cancel the order because they "bid by accident" even though they then paid for the item or they "found it cheaper" I am now charging a 15% restocking fee for all cancelled sales or returned items. This fee will apply even if the request comes immediately after the listing ends. I am not a retail chain that can return merchandise or afford to write it off or hold it until next year. This is my family's wallet you are impacting so I think it's only fair that your behavior impact your wallet as well.
Shipping (PLEASE DO READ)
:
ANY requests for special packaging, handling, etc. MUST be transmitted through EBAY (not regular email) to the seller within 12 hours of the end of the auction.
Sellers are pretty much forced to follow Ebay policies for shipping. That means the
package must have tracking.
In over 17 years on Ebay I have never tried to make money on shipping.
Please bear in mind that the estimated postage includes a slight bump to cover Ebay fees and other postal services (Insuranceor Signature Delivery Confirmation for items expected to go over 0, etc) and to help cover the costs of all those petroleum based packing materials (peanuts, bubble wrap, etc). Many items are also insured in case of loss/damage. If a package was insured through Ebay's ShipCover, that will not appear on the postage label or in the postage amount.
On heavier or oversize items, I may ship via FEDEX GROUND to try to save you money and/or delivery time.
Similarly, if I can combine shipping for you I will, and will refund any significant savings. Please note that I will not combine items if their size or nature makes it impractical, more expensive or dangerous (I won't ship a lead weight and a porcelain vase together).
International Shipping:
International buyer's are responsible for their country's import duty or tariffs. International payments may require additional postage to include a tracking number or signature receipt.
Sellers are pretty much forced to follow Ebay guidelines for shipping, which means there must be a tracking number used. For International shipping that means Priority Mail, Express Mail or Registered Mail. Frankly, I hate seeing buyers spend that kind of money on postage, but I have little choice but to protect myself by following the guidelines.
ETC:
The items I sell come from various collections and estates. Generally these items have been used or stored. I have no way of knowing whether the previous owner ever smoked, had pets, stored peanuts, or ever had a musty basement, etc. I do at least a cursory cleaning of the items I sell and will do my best to remove dirt, display dust, odors etc, but I CAN NOT be responsible for things like dust in tight
corners, odors I didn't detect, or some mark buried in the middle of a book. You're not paying for my time on an hourly basis and you're certainly not paying professional conservator/restoration rates so please be reasonable. I try to be as factual as I can when describing an item.
I don't claim to be an expert or collector of the things I sell. I sell a wide variety of items and may not know that a light is supposed to go on when a certain button is pushed or that an item is supposed to have 6 pieces instead of 5, or if an item came with a specific sticker/decal on it. I try very hard to describe things as best as I can and provide good photographs. Please look at the photos, if you don't see something ask me, don't assume that it is there. Please don't expect me to be able to answer your more technical or historical questions. If you can put it in words I understand or tell me where to look, I'll do my best to answer your question.
