Description
Royal Vienna Style Hand Painted Georgian Courting Couple Cobalt Gold Plate 1860sBeautiful porcelain scalloped edge dinner sized cabinet plate. Nicely decorated with a hand painted scene in the center of a Georgian / Colonial man and woman in a garden, with the lady's chaperone sitting behind them and holding an arrow. The woman is wearing a pink and blue dress, with a yellow robe. She appears to have a fan in her hand. The man is wearing a purple and orange frock coat with black pants. The chaperone has a blue dress and a black bonnet. They are sitting in front of trees and a large stone monument. There is a church or castle in the distance in the background. The sky is painted in shades of blue, yellow and peach. The border of the plate is cobalt blue with a gold gilt net/lattice, scrollwork and floral overlay pattern. With gold gilding along the edge. Marked on the reverse with a pseudo Royal Vienna underglaze blue beehive/shield mark. There is also an impressed 656K on the back of the plate. Probably 1860s.
Has quite a bit of wear to the gilding, but otherwise good condition with no chips or cracks. This is still a very pretty plate even with the wear.
Measures approximately 9 1/2 inches wide.
This is an antique and may have small in manufacture defects that do not effect the display-ability of the piece.
