    DESCRIPTION:
Really nice, HARD TO FIND antique Civil War history book. Published in 1868, it is a rare CONTEMPORARY HISTORY. Entitled "THE CAPTURE, PRISON PEN, & ESCAPE", A COMPLETE HISTORY OF PRISON LIFE IN THE SOUTH".  By Williard W. Glazier, a Union Prisoner during the war. Contains 20 CHAPTERS, each outlined in detail in the table of contents.  Also, has some great engraved illustrations from original drawings from the War of the Rebellion.
A GREAT EARLY BOOK ABOUT PRISON LIFE DURING THE WAR, WRITTEN AS CLOSE TO THE CIVIL WAR ITSELF AS POSSIBLE, JUST 3 YEARS AFTER THE END OF THE WAR. Covers all the most notorious southern prisons, INCLUDING LIBBY & ANDERSONVILLE.
This is a great book on a fascinating subject, and it is loaded with a great deal of early information. Covers the subject in depth, THAT MUCH MORE INTERESTING SINCE IT WAS WRITTEN WITH FRESH FACTS,  IN 1868, SO CLOSE TO THE WAR ITSELF. A great variety of chapters and details and information and content!!
ESPECIALLY NICE that it also has the original owner's name, "Mr. Henry Haigh, Woonsocket, R.I." in the front. Hand written in old black period ink.
Has appendices in the back. Hard cover. A very complete, very comprehensive scholarly (YET EASILY READABLE) text. About 7 1/2
" x 5 1/2". 400 pages. Brown cover and binding are In excellent condition. HAS WONDERFUL GOLD EMBOSSING OF TITLE ON THE FRONT. Pages are in very good - excellent condition as well.
A VERY HARD TO FIND EARLY, CONTEMPORARY CIVIL WAR HISTORY BOOK.  It
would make a great and unusual gift for that special collector.
This is a great early book, and very rare, and in nice condition!!! Especially nice with the original owner's name. The few attached scans will not do it justice, but hopefully will provide an idea. I can assure you that you will be extremely pleased with the rarity and detailed content of it!!
