    2002 first edition & 284 pages. First biography of Daniel who was at one time or another a US diplomat, journalist, Confederate officer & conscience of the Confederacy. He was strongly pro slavery & a bitter opponent of Jefferson Davis. He died in Richmond in march, 1865, just days before the Union took the city. Among other things he fought 9 duels including 1 with the Confederate Secretary of the Treasury.
