Today we are delighted to offer for sale a beautiful antique Royal Vienna porcelain portrait vase! The Imperial and Royal Porcelain Manufactory of Vienna (Kaiserlich Privilegierte Porcellain Fabrique) was originally founded in 1710 and was in operation until 1864. It had the patronage of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria and produced beautiful Rococo and Neoclassical pieces, often depicting the genre scenes of famous 18th and 19th century artists. This exquisite piece is the epitome of Royal Vienna's fine craftsmanship and design. The lidded vase features a baluster-shaped body adorned with neoclassical geometrical designs in the style of the Adam Brothers. The piece features lavender and sky blue panels heavily decorated with gilded arabesques, griffins, and urns, with textured "jeweled" ornamentation throughout. Delicate round floral medallions with maroon ground adorn the upper and lower borders. The front of the vase features the piece-de-resistance painting of the Greek god Hermes, the herald of the Gods, and of Venus. They lounge in a beautiful garden with a small putto and pair of white love birds. The painting has beautiful colors and meticulous detailing is reminiscent of the work of French painter Louis-Michel van Loo (1707-1771). The vase is marked with the company's Beehive hallmark on bottom. Vase presents beautifully and is in very good antique condition, with minor display wear and patina commensurate with age. There is minimal scattered loss to gilding; there is one minor fleabite chip to upper left border of portrait. Please review all photos before purchasing.
