    Description

This is an antique collection of 3-volumes from War of the Rebellion: A Compilation of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies published from 1889 to 1894.
They are all from Series 1: Military Operations with reports from the Union and the Confederate armies.
The War of the Rebellion, or the Official Records as they are commonly called,  are considered the best of history books detailing the  American civil war. The entire series was prepared under the direction of the Secretary of War and edited by Robert N. Scott in response to a June 1880 Act of Congress requiring a full account of the Civil War from both sides.
They are three-quarter leather-bound over marbleized paper covers with matching end pages. The entire book block has marbleized edges although the top and side have faded with age. The bottom of the page stack however is still quite vibrant. Please be aware that some of the leather on the spines are chipped, splitting, pulling away, and fragile as can be seen in the pictures.
These books measure 8.25" across, 9.75" tall, and 6.75" front to back. The books are all from Series 1 and include volume 26 part 1, volume 37 part 1, and volume 46.
We do not know the original owner of the collection but there are library cards, unused for the most part, in the front or back of some of the books and catalog numbers on the spine bottoms.
