"AN UNSURPASSED COLLECTION OF STORIES AND PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR, INCLUDING MANY FROM MATHEW BRADY.
This collection was arranged for the Semi-Centennial of the war but remains to this day the DEFINITIVE PHOTOGRAPHIC DOCUMENTARY OF THE CIVIL WAR."
There are thousands of photographs here, all are contemporary and many are by noted war photographers who risked their lives to capture these compelling images in dangerous surroundings using bulky primitive photographic equipment.
The informative and often lively text accompanying the photographs was supplied by 39 contributors including many participants and observers of the scenes themselves. They include President William Taft and a number of veteran officers from both sides of the conflict.
These are a reprint of the original set from 1911 - 10 volumes in 5 books with slipcase.
Very good to excellent condition. Dust covers may have a wrinkle here or there. Books are clean inside and out.
Books are 8" x 11", overall size in slipcase is 8-1/4" x11-1/2" x 10-1/2" and are very heavy.
